Privacy Policy

I take your privacy seriously and will only use your personal information to provide the products or services you have requested from me or to request information from you if there is a need for clarification. Please read further for details.

Who I am

My website address is: https://www.annmarieackermann.com. I am a freelance author managing this site as a sole proprietor. Anyone I might hire in the future to provide IT assistance may have access to your data but will be required to adhere to this privacy policy. You can contact me via the contact page of this website or via info[AT]annmarieackermann.com.

What personal data I collect and why I collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Your Email address will be held confidentially and not shared with anyone without your permission unless required by law. The comments will, however, be checked by an automatic spam detection service. I will not send you any promotions if you have only commented on my site or blog, but I might Email you to alert you to other comments and questions other readers have posted in response to your blog in case you want to respond, or to provide you information pertinent to your comment you might be interested in. If you want to delete a comment you have already made, contact me. Once the comment is deleted, I will no longer maintain your data unless you have published another comment on my blog.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Contact forms

If you contact me via the contact form on my site, I will receive your Email address. I will use it to contact you back. It will not be shared with anyone without your permission unless required by law. At your request, I will delete your contact information.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

I use data from the visitors to my site to create analytics. They allow me to see how many “hits” I receive during a specific time period, which posts and pages are the most popular, and in which countries and regions my readership lives. The analytics do not provide any individual or personal information.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Blog subscriptions: If you subscribe to my blog, you will also be asked to provide your Email address. Your Email address will be held confidentially and not shared with anyone without your permission unless required by law. I will use that address to Email you my blog posts. Those posts may contain information about or advertisements for my book. You may unsubscribe at any time through the link provided at the bottom of the Email. In that case, I will delete your data.

Newletter subscriptions: If you subscribe to my newsletter, you will also be asked to provide your Email address. Your Email address will be held confidentially and not shared with anyone without your permission unless required by law. I will use that address to Email you my newsletters and occasional promotional materials for my book, such as materials prepared by my publisher. You may unsubscribe at anytime through the link provided at the bottom of the Email. In that case, I will delete your data.

Email signup sheets: If you have attended one of my events, you may have signed up for Email notification about my book. I will use your address to contact you about the publication of my book or a translated edition, depending on which you signed up for. I may also send you materials prepared by my publisher. To this end, I will store your name and contact information digitally. The address will not be shared with anyone without your permission unless required by law. If you want to be removed from a list you have already signed up for, contact me, and I will strike your data from the signup sheet and delete the digital version of your data.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us.
